About the Editor
Katherena Vermette (she/her) joined Simon and Schuster Canada as a Senior Editor in June 2024. She is a Michif writer, editor, and teacher from Winnipeg, Canada and has worked in all sorts of capacities in and around writing for over 20 years. As a teacher, recent mentees have included Amanda Peters, Jessica Johns, and Michelle Porter, and now as an editor, she looks forward to working on newly acquired work from Dr. Esther Tailfeathers, Louis Busch, and Tanya Boteju. This year she will add The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones and To the Moon and Back by Eliana Ramage to the S&S Canada list.
On the writing side, she is a celebrated and bestselling writer of many genres. Her awards include the Governor General’s Award for Poetry, the Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Prize for Fiction, the Amazon First Novel Award, and a Canadian Screen Award for Best Short Documentary. Her four novels have all been national best sellers in Canada.
She is looking for both non and fiction adult and children’s books, prioritizes working with writers from underserved communities, seeks to diversify spaces that need shaking up, and will never say no to reading a book that leans weird, witchy, resistant, or all the above.
