Tom Spain, Vice President, Editorial Director, at Simon & Schuster Audio, originally joined as Senior Editor in 1988, after covering the audio and video publishing businesses for Publishers Weekly and The Washington Post. Following stints at Bantam Audio, Pocket Books and Dell Publishing, he returned to S&S Audio in 2005. For audio editions of books published by other houses, he is interested in high-profile publications from bestselling authors, who in recent years have included Fareed Zakaria, Pete Buttigieg, Pulitzer Prize-winner Elizabeth Kolbert, Michael Lewis, and Al Gore (Grammy Award winner). For original audio projects he is especially interested in bestselling authors for whom original audio programs can organically expand their current publishing programs and franchises – both fiction and non-fiction, from curating or repurposing extant audio material, to recording material that exists only in print, to writing and recording all new material. His acquisitions include original audio productions from such bestselling authors as Drs. Roizen and Oz, Joel Osteen and Eben Alexander, and the acclaimed original publications You’re Good Enough, You’re Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like You! by Al Franken (Grammy nomination), Sunday Mornings in Plains: Bringing Peace to a Changing World by Jimmy Carter (Grammy nomination), and Barack Obama: The 60 Minutes Interviews by Steve Kroft (Audie nomination). He is a graduate of Yale College.
