Amara Hoshijo joined the Saga Press/Gallery Books editorial team in January 2021. Prior to that, she was at Soho Press, where she specialized in international crime fiction, debut literary fiction, and speculative fiction for more than eight years.
Amara is looking for ambitious, otherworldly SFF and horror projects, preferably ones with a strong cultural lens. She prioritizes immersive worldbuilding and is drawn to innovative societal, technological, and magical systems. On the horror side, she likes imagery that will keep her up at night, stories of spiritual revenge, and built-in social commentary. Tonally, she enjoys the full range, from lighthearted and fun to dark and cynical, and in terms of prose, she aims for that elusive literary-commercial sweet spot.
