About the Editor

Amanda Betts (she/her) is an executive editor for Simon & Schuster Canada, where she edits narrative and idea-driven non-fiction, memoir, expert-led prescriptive works, and literary fiction. She’s interested a range of subjects including the natural world, psychology, history, and science, and perspectives that combine emotional clarity with intellectual rigour; in fiction, she’s drawn to a strong sense of place, nuanced characterization and books that challenge narrative tropes. As a senior editor at Knopf Canada, she edited books by bestselling and award-winning Canadian authors including Sarah Bernstein (Study for Obedience), Dr. Jennifer Grenz (Medicine Wheel for the Planet) and Dr. Jen Gunter (The Menopause Manifesto). International authors included Maggie O’Farrell, Ed Yong, Adam Weymouth and Michael Finkel. With S&S, she looks forward to the publication of Women at Rest by Dr. Claire Horn, about the medical prescription and cultural commodification of rest, and the English publication of the Dutch bestseller Focus On-Off: Fuel Your Attention, Recharge Your Brain and Get More Done by Mark Tigchelaar and Oscar de Bos..
